Itinerary

Day 1  •  Rome

Arrival at Fiumicino Airport in the morning and meeting with one of our ORP assistants, who will inform travelers about particulars of the journey and answer any questions. The ORP assistant will handle transfer to the hotel/religious house for registration and lunch. In the early afternoon, we collect at the city center for a guided tour of Imperial Rome: Roman Forum, Imperial Forum, Campidoglio, Colosseum (outside visit), Carcer Tullianum, Piazza Venezia and Piazza Navona.  From there we return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2  •  Rome

In the morning we take a short walk to St. Peter’s Square to assist in the Angelus (the blessing of the Pope). The early afternoon will be dedicated to a panoramic tour on the Open Bus Roma Cristiana. Free time for the remainder of the day to explore, shop, and experience the vibrant culture of this matchless city. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3  •  Rome

In the morning we take a guided tour of St. Sebastiano’s Catacombs. In the afternoon, transfer to Vatican area where we take a guided visit of Vatican Museums, held up as among the most important museums in the world. Here, the Popes have preserved some of the greatest masterpieces of all time. Only ORP pilgrims will be able to enter the Museum quickly, bypassing the long, slow line that snakes along the Vatican wall. During the visit you can admire Raphael’s Rooms and the private living quarters of Pope Julius II, decorated with important frescoes by the great Renaissance painters. The visit will end at the Sistine Chapel, the work of the great master Michelangelo. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 4   •  Rome

Full day dedicated to the guided visit of the Lateran Complex, including St. John’s Basilica, Sancta Sanctorum and the Cloister. The Basilica of St. John Lateran is the oldest church in the West, the mother and archetype of all the Christian churches in Rome and the world. It remained the papal residence for more than a thousand years, up until the 14th century. After we explore this incredible site, we return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5  •  Pompeii/Rome

We take a full-day trip to Pompeii, site of perhaps the most infamous volcanic explosion of all time.  An English-speaking guide leads us through the well-preserved ancient city. Dinner and overnight back at the hotel in Rome.

Day 6   •  Assisi

We travel to Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis and St. Clare, and we tour the city, visiting the Basilica of St. Francis and his home. Visit to the Church of St. Clare and the Church of Mary of Angels. A pilgrimage to Assisi is the cornerstone of many traditional pilgrimages, and one which refreshes and lends new power to the inner path of any pilgrim, renewing the essence of Saint Francis’ doctrine. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Assisi.

Day 7  •  Florence

Transfer in a private coach from Assisi to Florence, one of the most glowing jewels of Italy, by virtue of its traditions and the masterpieces of Michelangelo. Referred to as the “art capital of Italy,” Florence is immensely rich in artistic and cultural significance, possessing numerous museums and art galleries where some of the world’s most important works of art are held.  During our stay in Florence we will take a walking guided tour, passing by the Uffizi and over the Ponte Vecchio, and touching on the main Churches: St. Maria Maggiore and St. Croce Basilica. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Florence.

Day 8   •  Florence – Venice

We will take a possible walking tour in Florence (schedule permitting) and then transfer on a private coach to romantic Venice, capital of the Veneto region in northern Italy. The city stretches across 117 small islands and is surrounded by water. Originally a highly important trade hub, Venice rapidly grew into—and still remains—a pinnacle of art, food, and operatic music, and is the birthplace of Antonio Vivaldi. The tour during our two days in Venice will include a walking visit to the center and the main sites of the city, including the gorgeous Basilica of St. Mark and its open square, full of colors, statues, and music. Venice is also renowned for architecture, fabrics and gleaming glassworks, all of which we will have the opportunity to experience. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Venice.

Day 9   •  Venice

We will enjoy a day of leisure in Venice and visit the surrounding islands: Murano, world-famous for the quality of its master glass craftsmen, Burano, the Devil’s Island, and the famous Lido Island, and finish the day with a visit to the Basilica della Salute. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Venice.

Day 10  •  Rome

Breakfast at hotel. Check out and transfer to Rome's international airport for your flight home. ORP assistance with check-in procedures at the airport.
